Was this really happening? Leila clamped down on her lower lip with her teeth, her insides fluttering.

“Or.” Xander gave her a smug smile. “You have to take an imperfect moment and turn it into a perfect one.” He opened the box, revealing a sparkling, solitaire diamond set on top of a golden band.

Her breath caught in her throat. It was so simple, yet so elegant. And it was meant for her. She glanced up to meet his steady gaze.

“How about we start another adventure?” he asked. “Together this time.”

The fluttering in her stomach morphed into a swarm of euphoria. She flung herself forward, wrapped her arms around him, and kissed that smugness off his face.

“Just one?” She pressed her nose against his and lost herself in his deep, hickory-brown eyes.

“A lifetime of adventure,” Xander whispered.

And she knew she couldn’t miss out on a single one. Holding his gaze, she grinned. “Count me in.”
