There was never a point in my life I thought I would get to be this happy.
Two hours later, I was standing on the track, watching as Jax, Quinn and Chase pulled up, lining their cars up next to mine. The sea of cars was nearly endless today, Holt’s yearly track party only growing each year, and I figured this was going to be one of the biggest yet.
The entire place felt like home to me, since the track was one of the places I came the most when I was in town.
Daisy got out of Quinn’s car, choosing to ride with her since I had to be here a little earlier. Bailey was right behind her, both of them smiling as they headed my way. My smile fell when I looked down at the thin, short dress Daisy had on.
I immediately looked at Chase, who gave me a sly smile and grabbed Bailey, taking her off to the side with Quinn and Jax.
“Get over here,” I said, pulling Daisy around the cars until we were partially blocked from everyone else.
“What’s wrong?”
“What the hell is this dress?”
“What’s wrong with it?”
“It’s the hottest outfit I’ve ever seen. And the thing is so thin, I can make out every inch of your body through the fabric. Did you do it to kill me?”
“No, I did it because it’s hot.”
I leaned down and kissed her hard. “I think it’s torture, and I’m dying to know what you have on under this.”
“I bet you can guess.”
“Daisy,” I groaned.
“Kye.” She basically purred my name and ran a hand over my chest.
“You’re making it hard to think about racing.”
She grinned, taking a step back. “Hopefully that’s not the only thing I’m making hard.”
My mouth dropped. Somehow, her bold words always shocked me, but I loved them every time.
“Where are you going after that comment?” I yelled as she headed back towards the crew and Bailey.
“To watch you race.”
I jogged to catch up to her, glad my sunglasses could hide the way I was staring the entire time.
“Before I raced, I was going to see if you would be fine if I took Bailey for a ride.”
“In that thing?” she asked, looking back at the car I had today.
“That is one of the nicest ones we have here.”
“It looks like it might fall apart.”
I laughed, pulling her under my arm. “I wouldn’t ask to put Bailey in it if that was a possibility.”
“Why do you want to take her?”
“I think she would like it, and you know I won’t let her get hurt.”
“Kye…”
“Is that a reluctant yes? She’ll be well buckled in, and I bought her a helmet.”
“You bought her a helmet for this, too? When?”
“The other night. We measured her head.”
Her mouth dropped open. “You what? You two planned this?”
“Well, kind of. I told her I don’t know if she can ride yet, though.”
“I can’t…You can’t… You two are really going to be the death of me. I can already feel it.”
“I hope that’s a yes?”
“Yes, but I swear, Kye, if she gets hurt, I’m going to kill you.”
“And I would let you.” I leaned down to kiss her, surprised at how easy it was to be with her.
Daisy always was and always would be a magnet for me. I couldn’t stop touching and kissing her if she was close.
