Coop woke to the warmth of Sam snuggled against him, her head resting in the hollow of his neck, their legs entwined.

He ran his hand down her arm to rest on her waist, his body already gaining momentum for round three, the corners of his mouth edging up in a self-satisfied smile.

Sam sighed and nestled closer, one hand splayed over his chest, her knee brushing against him.

A deep sense of peace settled over him as realization dawned; the huge chunk missing from his life slept beside him.

But how did she feel about him? She desired him to be sure, but did it go beyond the physical?

He’s watching her.

Coop flinched at The Voice’s intrusion on this special moment. Not now, he mentally pleaded, not now.

He’s watching her.

Who’s watching who, dammit! Give me something more to go on!

“Coop? What’s wrong?” Sam leaned on her elbow, and peered at him with anxious eyes.

He blinked and wondered if he’d spoken out loud or perhaps she heard the voice as well. “Nothing’s wrong.”

“You’re tense all over and your face looks like you sucked a lemon.”

He pulled her on top of him, not ready to talk about it, or willing to give up this time with her. “Maybe I was disappointed you fell asleep on me.”

She settled herself along the length of him, one hand brushing aside his hair, those deep blue pools piercing his soul.

“Something’s bothering you.” She chewed her lower lip. “I hope it’s not me.”

He opened his mouth to protest, but she covered his lips with her fingers.

“I don’t sleep around, Dee. Something about you got to me the first time we met, and it’s grown stronger every day since.”

She squared her shoulders and inhaled deeply as though preparing herself for some unpleasant task.

“I never thought it would happen to me, but –”

He turned his head to remove her fingers from his mouth, joyful heart anticipating her words. “You rocked my world from the get-go, Sam, and it’s been rocking ever since.” His thumb caressed her lower lip. “I think it’s safe to say the feelings are mutual.”

Something brilliant and earth-shattering flashed in her eyes. She leaned forward, her breasts brushing against his chest, and covered his mouth with hers in a savoring, lingering kiss.

Rational thought vanished.

More than sexual desire, it signified a blending of hearts.

When she straddled him, the pleasure was pure and explosive; a raw act of possession.

He belonged to her. She belonged to him.

Hypnotized by the love flowing from her like warm honey, he surrendered completely to her slow, deliberate seduction.

The slide of her sweat-coated body against his was exquisite torture. He couldn’t get enough. His neck arched and he gripped her hips, thrusting upward.

She pushed at his hands. “Slow is good, remember?”

He groaned in sweet agony as her raw sensuousness carried him way beyond anything he could have imagined.

Their moves gained momentum until they shattered into a million points of light, their breath coming in long, shuddering moans as currents of pleasure pulsed through them.

Gasping for air, Sam collapsed on his chest. It was some time before she slid off, and snuggled by his side.

“Wanna talk about it now?”

Her quiet question pulled him from the edge of exhausted sleep. “About what?”

“Whatever troubled you earlier. And don’t try and tell me it was nothing.”

For a moment he considered the old just work stuff answer. But he didn’t want to start their relationship off with a lie. On the other hand, he didn’t want her to think he was crazy, either.

She believes in ghosts, thinks her grandmother talks to her. Maybe she won’t think I’m crazy. “It’s…complicated.”

“I’m a doctor. I deal with complications all the time.” She rubbed a circle on his chest. “But I understand if it’s something you’d rather not talk to me about.”

“It’s not that I don’t want to.”

She raised up to look at him. “Then what is it?”

He clamped his jaw tight, released it. “You’ll think I’m crazy.”
