“Let me know if you change your mind. I promise it’s an experience you will never forget,” he says with a wink.
“I’m sure I won’t,” she says, boarding.
I look at him and say with a growl in my voice, “Next time, you might want to ask me if I want you to join in before you ask my woman.”
I get on the train behind Mya, and we look for our seats.
I let her sit by the window, and I take the aisle. If given the opportunity, I think I want to trip that fucker before I arrest him.
“Calm down,” Mya whispers.
I kiss her lips, and that does calm me for now.
Chapter Nineteen
MYA
I pull back from the kiss with Shane, I can tell he’s riled up by what Cavanaugh, AKA Cassanova, insinuated. I wonder if that’s the same offer he gave to the other women, I think to myself.
I don’t have time to dwell on it too much as the man in question boards the car and walks the aisle. Once he sees me, he winks, and I have to hold Shane’s hand to keep him from jumping up and punching the man.
“Okay, ladies and gentlemen, the train will be departing in a few short minutes. Please ensure all your items are put away. The cafe will open once the train is in full motion. Don’t worry, I will let you all know when that time is. For now, sit back and enjoy the seats or whatever you prefer to ride on,” he says with a smirk, and it makes my skin crawl, but it is telling that he may have witnessed the last couple.
He walks back down the aisle and out of the car, presumably to the next one.
“He is definitely someone who needs to be questioned, no matter what,” Shane says.
“I agree. He obviously saw that couple having sex, so makes me wonder what else he may have seen,” I reply quietly to him.
He nods but says nothing more. I close my eyes and lay my head on Shane’s shoulder. He grabs my hand, holds it, and allows me to sleep for a little bit.
I wake to the smell of coffee, not knowing how long I had been out. “Is that coffee?” I ask.
Shane chuckles and says, “Yes. Heath brought us both a cup since he knew I wouldn’t leave you while you were sleeping.”
“Oh, that was so sweet of him,” I say, taking my cup from him. “Thank you,” I tell him before asking, “How long was I out?”
“Forty-five minutes,” he tells me.
“Not too bad then,” I say, and he chuckles while we both drink our coffee.
“Have you seen the conductor?”
“The last time he came through, was to tell everyone the cafe was open, then he went back through that door, and I haven’t seen him since,” Shane tells me.
“Interesting, I wonder where he is?”
“The question is, how long will we have to wait for him to come back to the car once we reach Boston?”
“That’s a good point,” I say, sipping on my coffee, while wondering where the conductor would go on the train.
“We have about an hour before we pull into Boston, do you want to take a walk to the cafe for more coffee? Gives us a chance to check things out,” Shane asks, with a shrug, and I can’t help the giggle that escapes me. The man is so damn cute.
“Yes, let’s do that because I’m curious where he could be spending his time. Plus, I need more coffee,” I tell him, and this time he laughs.
We get up from our seats, and he allows me to walk in front of him. My phone vibrates, and I look down to see a text from Heath,
Bitch, you awake yet?
I text him back.
Yes. Going to the cafe for more coffee and to look around. Want to join us?
Hell yes. I’m bored, and these people aren’t chatty.
I chuckle, and Shane looks at me quizzically.
“Heath is bored,” I tell him, and he nods in understanding.
We walk through the car door and into the next car. I look around at the people on their laptops, phones, or tablets. Some, though not many, are sleeping, but the majority seems to be working on something in this car. Shane and I continue forward until we come to the cafe car. There is a small line, so I browse the menu, while we wait.
Heath comes in a few minutes after us and steps in line behind us.
“Oh my God, this train ride is so boring.”
“What did you think it would be like?” I ask curiously because I never considered what being on the train could be like.
