I fed my stamina the full five points to help me last longer in small hordes like the one I just faced. In critical moments where I’d need to fight alone, depending on it would be key. Aside from that, the loot I received from these nasty freaks was well worth the effort. I had two skill accelerants, using one of them on my blast shot and the other on my bots. My minions had already naturally increased in skill after the fight, so seeing it jump up two levels got me real excited. Not only that, I got not one, not two, but THREE quadruple EXP Amulets!

Shit, I didn’t even know those existed!

Rufian insisted I took them all to help me level up faster, and I was thankful for his generosity. To add onto the wealth, I also got a right leg sleeve, and it was about damn time, too. “We need to head back home so I can get my gear fixed,” I said, eyeing my busted piece.

“Thank you for the protection, hero. I seldomly need assistance, so this was a rather odd and new experience for me.”

“Sorry your pride is shot, arcane fae,” I turned around to him and teased. “Must burn having a low-leveled human fight your battles for you.”

He snickered. “Now, now, let’s not belittle your abilities. You are no common low-leveled human. Let’s not forget that. You’ve been enlightened.”

I chuckled. “You can say that again.”

“But before we head home, we should consider retrieving what we came here for first.”

“Which is?”

“The Master Elixir embedded within the sub chambers of Kapata, Dokumbe.”

“Wait a minute, I thought the underground stream was connected to regions within Mavriel only?”

“But I also said that Kapata used to be part of Mavriel. The land yielded little resources, so we had no problem surrendering it to those filthy goblins.”

“Seems strange that a place so fruitless would be important in summoning the location of the codex.”

He shrugged. “We don’t make the rules, Silas, we just follow them. Now, since your gear is damaged, I believe it best to put them away and revert to your fae alias.”

“Right.” I hid my tools and followed Rufian’s lead into the caverns, asking him questions along the way. Apparently we needed eight ounces of this stuff, and according to fae law, it was illegal to take from the stream. The channels were considered property of the High Order, which made Rufian skip along the rocky elevated pathways within the dense cavern with an uncharacteristic glee.

He sure loved the thrill of breaking the High Order’s rules.

We continued deeper into the humid caverns, the sound of water echoing off the walls. Finally, Rufian stopped at a small opening in the rock and gestured for me to follow him inside.

As I stepped into the small chamber, I could feel the energy vibrating throughout the space. There, in the center, was a small pool of shimmering liquid that seemed to glow from within. The area gave me déjà vu vibes, the resemblance to Lucyna’s private cavern making goosebumps rise up my skin. The walls were adorned with glowing crystals that cast an ethereal blue light across the room. Rufian approached the pool and dipped a vial into the liquid, carefully measuring out the exact amount we needed.

On second thought, it looked like he was overshooting.

I inched forward, my curiosity peaking. The liquid looked very transparent and reflective like water, but a bit on the turbid side like oil. It was enchanting to say the least, and I was tempted to dip my hand into it, even though I knew I wouldn’t benefit any.

I wasn’t a true fae, but hell, there was nothing to lose if I did, right?
