“Two weeks is not ages, and I wish I could. But I have to do a few things tonight, then I’m crashing. Hard.” Maybe after that hot bubble bath and glass of wine I didn’t get last night.
The driver closed his door and pulled up the app for the location. “Sweet, Club Indecent. I was there last week. That place is awesome.” He looked at me warily through the mirror. “You wanna stop at home to change first. I mean you look good the way you are right now, but those aren’t really club clothes, ya know?”
“What did he say about a club?” Katia broke in.
I cursed silently to myself. “No but thank you. I have a meeting there. I’m not going for fun.” I told the driver, then gave my attention back to Katia. “It’s nothing, Kat. Just something I have to take care of.”
I wasn’t the one cursing this time. “He did it again, didn’t he? Wait, but why would you be going to a club? I’m confused.”
I sighed. “It’s kind of a long story.”
She snorted. “It always is with Randy.”
“Kat…”
I could almost hear the eye roll. “I know, I know, I know. He’s your only brother. Someone has to look out for him, yada, yada, yada. I’ll save both of us the time and stress and just jump to the please be careful part.”
“I will. It’s going to be quick. In and out.”
Yeah… it was so not going to be a quick in. And from the looks of things, I doubted it would be a quick out too. The line to get in was ridiculous. And after seeing the way all the other women were dressed, I understood why the driver said I should change.
I was way more covered than them.
I had no desire to wait in line, my feet were ready to sue for a divorce. Taking my chances, I cut to the front and approached the bouncer handling the entry fee. Seeing me jump ahead like that, another bouncer - both of them were dressed in black tactical pants and black t-shirts that said Indecent in the top left corner - came to stand next to him. I didn’t think I looked like a threat, but who knew what kind of threats they got in a place like this. The only threat I posed was definitely not of a physical nature.
“Hi.” I smiled self-consciously. They lifted an eyebrow and took in my attire. “I, uh, need to speak with Dillan.”
They looked at each other, and then back at me. They were both frowning now.
“Do either of you know how to speak in words, or just in the ape version of sign language?”
Someone behind me snorted into laughter. I was tired and I didn’t want to be there. I also might have a small issue with my mouth when I got this tired. Or when I was nervous. Again, people were not my thing.
The main bouncer smirked. “You need to wait in line, Ma’am.”
“But I really don’t want to. Especially since I just need to drop something off and get out of here. I mean, seriously, do I look like the normal type of person who goes out to a club on a Friday night.” I spun to the girls right behind me. “No offense.”
The one closer shrugged. “None taken. You do you, honey.”
