“It was nearly my undoing again. I know you say you love me, but something about you having a piece of me in your professional life… it really affected me, Fi. It made me need to find you even more. I didn’t think it was possible to love you more than I already did, but I do.”

“I knew you were coming. I kept telling myself that you were coming. At the same time, I had to make Ivan think I hated you and that was why I hacked your system in the first place. I had to make him believe it. Then I heard your voice, and I felt it deep in my bones. The word had just come that you were there. The attack just started, and you were already there to save me. You didn’t waste any time finding me today, Dillan. I get what you are saying. Knowing, seeing you put me above all else, above your own safety. You called in mafia ties you don’t want, all to save me. Hearing your voice, feeling your arms around me, gave me the peace I needed. My love for you grows more and more every day. I need you more than I have ever needed anyone.”

It was a long time before we made it to that shower, but we did eventually make it.

While I warmed up something for dinner, Fiona made calls to Katia and Linda. Then she emailed Gary, from his own account, telling him she was taking the next couple of weeks off work. She said he would know for sure it was her that way.

We ate in our favorite fashion, with her on my lap, and me feeding her.

The next morning, I woke to her still in my arms, sleeping soundly. Usually she woke me up, as she had to get to work. It was always early enough that we could welcome the new day together. Not this morning though. This morning, my girl needed her sleep.

It hadn’t been all that restful the night before. She had a few nightmares, more about them killing Randy or myself, than them hurting her. She woke up clinging to me tightly after those ones.

After a quick check through my missed messages, my people updating me, I slipped out and snuck into the bathroom, then slipped back into the bed. Her eyes were closed, but she cuddled into my side and draped her leg over me. I turned to my side, making sure I was in just the right spot on her and teased her. As soon as the whimpering started, I pushed her to her back and picked up where we left off the night before.

“With how often we do this, it’s a good thing I have an IUD.” Fiona laughed. “Not to mention how long you stay inside there.”

I rocked into her again, making her moan. “It’s my favorite place to be. Soft, warm, cozy. And all mine.” I moved slowly, building us both back up. “Admit it, you don’t want me to come out.”

“Never.”

Eventually, we climbed out of the bed in search of food.

“I need to go see Randy today.” She told me, while feeding me a piece of bacon.

“No.” She pulled the bacon back and glared at me. I tried to soften my voice. I didn’t want to sound too overbearing. “You need to rest and lay low.”

“I need to see my brother. I need to see that he is okay.”

“BoBo sent a guard to watch over him. The pain meds are keeping him asleep for the most part. The cops and doctors all believe the story about the mugging. If you go, it’s going to start new questions.”

“Why? I’m his sister. His family.”

“Yes, but you also look like you took a beating.” I lightly grazed the bruises on her cheek. Fiona tried to hide the wince, but it didn’t work. I saw through it. “You need to stay until you heal. And I need to keep you where you are safe. Where I can protect you.”

Apparently, she saw through me too. She leaned back and held my head to her chest. I wouldn’t complain about the position, just that my t-shirt covered too much of her.

“You can’t keep me locked away forever.”

I turned and bit her through the shirt. “Watch me.” I ended up ripping the shirt off her so I could get a better bite.

Chapter 17

Fiona

I caved to Dillan and let him keep me locked up for nearly a week. If it hadn’t been for the regular rotation of ice packs and ibuprofen, it would have been a great week. I needed to see Randy though.

With the help of a boatload of concealer and a face mask, most of the dark rainbow was covered.
