I ran over and checked his pulse again. I sighed. “He just passed back out.”
Chapter 16
Dillan
I almost didn’t make it in time. It had taken longer to organize with Bruno than I thought it would. But then, I’d never had to organize a war party before.
Jorge sent the timer to Fiona, letting her know we were coming. He said she would know what to do from there. Considering we nearly got all the way to their front door before they knew we were here, when Bruno was expecting an earlier welcome, Jorge was right.
While Bruno and his men went in guns blazing, BoBo and I went in the direction Jorge had instructed us to go in before we left him with our car. The computer was off, but he had a good idea of where she was in the building. Being closer had helped him get better location specifics.
I didn’t know if I would ever be able to get the image of Fiona being pinned down by two men twice her size out of my head.
I brought her back to my arms, where she was safe as soon as she was assured that Randy was still breathing.
“They probably broke a couple ribs this time. He had enough willpower to push through the pain to grab the gun Neil dropped, probably when he grabbed your arms. We will get him to a doctor as soon as it is safe to leave this room.”
Fiona nodded once and leaned on me. “You’re late.”
I huffed and wrapped her in my arms. “I expected to find you curled in a ball and crying when I got here, not mouthing off to two men intent on hurting you.”
Her laugh was shaky. “No, you didn’t.”
I squeezed her tighter, wishing I could always keep her safe right there. “No, I didn’t. How are you, really?”
I lifted her chin up with my finger, so I could see in her eyes. The tears were beginning to form, her wall at the breaking point. She had really pushed herself mentally this time. I kissed each watery eye.
“I will get you home. I will keep you safe. Everyone knows you are mine now. No one will ever dare to hurt you again. If I have to build an army to stand guard around you, I will. According to Jorge, I now have the money for it.”
Her tears slid out then, her small smile wobbling. “I was scared spitless, Dillan.”
“I know, princess. The more scared you are, the mouthier you get.”
“Wait. Does that mean you were scared of me when you came to the club?” BoBo broke in.
“Out of my freaking mind.” Fiona mumbled into my shirt. “I’d never faced one of my brother’s bookies before. Hell, I’d never been to a club before.”
