“I agree,” I say quietly so no one can hear me, just as the elevator doors open and we step inside.

“What should we do now?” Mya asks when the doors close.

“That’s easy, there are nine more hospitals and three medical centers we can check with to see if any of them are missing the drug,” I tell her.

“Wow, I didn’t realize Boston was so big,” she says in awe.

“There’s more than that, but I thought we would focus on this area, and if we need to spread out to the other hospitals,” I tell her honestly.

“Damn,” she whispers.

The elevator opens, and we walk out into the lobby before walking out to the parking lot now that we have a plan.

Mya and I spend the day going to each hospital on the nearby list, with each of them telling me they would have an audit done and a report sent to us.

We head back to the precinct to see if Nora and Agent Robertson have found anything from their field trip today, and I want to check my emails to see if any of the reports have been sent over yet.

When we walk in, Nora and the Agent are laughing, and I look over at Mya, who just shrugs her shoulders.

“Heath, did you learn anything,” Mya asks, and now I know the Agent’s first name is Heath.

“Oh, Nora and I found out so much tea. Have you eaten yet?” he asks her.

“No, we’ve been visiting every hospital and medical center in the area,” she says with a sigh.

“So, you didn’t eat lunch?” he asks, and I feel like an ass for not thinking about getting something to eat.

“No, to be honest, I think we both forgot about food, wanting to hit every place we could before the Director’s went home,” she tells him honestly, and I feel relieved that it wasn’t just me.

“Well, we are getting dinner because you need to eat, and Nora and I can tell you what we learned today,” he says with so much excitement in his voice.

“Sounds good,” she says, though I can hear the tiredness in her voice.

I wake up my computer and check my emails, so far, I have received three reports as promised, but the one I expected to see is not here, Boston General has not sent anything over. I wonder what Director Fields is hiding. I print out the three reports I did receive and make Mya a copy for her files as well.

“Did you find out anything helpful, Shane?” Nora asks, and I can only shake my head no.

Looking over the reports of the three other hospitals, they are not missing anything, which is good to know we can cross them off our list.

“Well, let’s go eat. Nora promised me a good steak house, and your boy is starving,” Heath says, and both Nora and Mya laugh at him as he links his arms through theirs and leads them out of the precinct.

I can only shake my head, but a steak does sound good. I grab my keys and follow behind them.

Chapter Ten

MYA

Heath and I follow Nora and Shane to the restaurant, with me driving our car. When we got back to the precinct, I hadn’t realized we never ate today as we went from one hospital to another. I just knew I was exhausted and wanted to go back to the hotel and sleep.

Being with Shane all day today was causing my body to be tense and overheated, especially in the elevators. I could feel the electrical current in the air between the two of us. At one point, I had hoped that the elevator would stop and get stuck so he would kiss me and run his hands all over my body. I know, that only happens in the movies where the girl gets stuck in an elevator with a hot guy, and it never happens in real life, but it didn’t mean that’s not what my mind and body wanted to happen.

I find a parking spot at the restaurant, and both Heath and I climb out, meeting Shane and Nora at the front. When we walk in, I’m surprised by the cozy feel of the place. It almost feels like home. The walls are a light color, and with the number of windows that go all the way around the building, causing the sunlight to come in, makes the inside of the restaurant bright.

There are different types of era pictures on the walls, but not so much that you are overwhelmed by the amount. One wall has a picture of a wagon train, another wall has some cowboys wrangling cattle.

As the hostess takes us to our table, I notice above us is a big wagon wheel that was turned into a chandelier. We each take a seat at the table, with Heath sitting next to Nora and across from me, leaving Shane to sit beside me. Each time he moves his arm to look at the menu, he brushes up against mine, causing my skin to break out in goosebumps.

I have a hard time concentrating on the menu, and after the fifth brush-up, I close my menu, giving up. The waitress comes over and takes our drink order. I ask for a coffee, and Shane does too, while Heath and Nora ask for alcoholic beverages.

The waitress comes back with our drinks and then takes our order, while the others are ordering, I quickly open my menu, and the first thing my eyes land on, is a six-ounce sirloin with a baked potato and salad. The waitress jots our order down and takes the menus, leaving us to finally hear about Heath and Nora’s day.

“What did you learn?” Shane asks, placing his left hand under the table and brushing my leg.

I can’t help the moan that leaves my lips, but thankfully, I was taking a sip of my coffee, and Heath makes a comment, “Did you not drink your fill of coffee today?”

I set my cup down, and say, “No, the last cup I had was at the hotel this morning.”

“Oh, you need your fix.” He turns to Nora and says, “My girl Mya has an obsession with coffee.”

I can only groan.

Nora giggles and says, “So does Shane.”

“So, what did you learn?” Shane asks again.

“I will say, Heath is good at getting people to talk,” Nora says.
