That does the trick. She jumps up screeching. “What are you doing?”

“Trying to get your attention, and that one seemed to have worked,” I tell her with a chuckle.

“I’m sorry,” she says, her face turning red.

“We’ve been looking at the screen for hours, maybe we should take a break, get some food for Heath, then we can grab something for us, before returning to this,” I say, pointing at the footage.

She stretches her arms up, her white blouse pulls tightly across her flat stomach, pushing up her breasts, I want nothing more than to rip that shirt open and touch every part of her skin. She lowers her arms, grabs her blazer, and says, “Yeah, you are probably right, and I’m sure Heath is starving by now.”

I turn the security footage off, grab the thumb drive from the computer, then we leave the conference room before walking out of the precinct.

We stop at a burger joint to pick up Heath some food. I grab him two combos, as the man has no issues eating.

We get to the hospital and make our way to the sixth floor. Heath directs us where to go to meet him, and we find him in a storage room, watching three people conduct the inventory.

“Where is Ms. Fischer?” I ask.

“She left shortly after assigning the task to these three people,” he tells me.

“Here, take a break and go eat in the lobby. We’ll watch them until you are done and ready to come back,” Mya tells him, handing him the bag.

“Thank you. You are a lifesaver,” he says and quips back with, “I know, now go.”

Heath leaves back down the hall while Mya and I watch the three technicians audit the inventory.

“Judy, could you come check this?” one of the technicians call for another.

I watch as the technician counts the vials, then looks at the paper and counts again. She looks at the technician who called her and says, “Your numbers are right, and this is a problem.”

“What’s the problem?” I ask.

Both technicians look nervous as they look at each other before Judy speaks up and says, “We are missing ten bottles of fentanyl tablets,” she says.

“When was the last time the inventory was checked?” I ask.

“Last week,” she replies, handing over the report from last week, and they are comparing it to a report of what should be here, based on what has been signed out and given to patients.

“Agent?” another technician calls out.

“Yes,” Mya responds.

“We are also missing two vials of NMBAs,” she says with a sigh.

“Who has access to this pharmacy?” I ask.

“Ms. Fischer, Laurel Whitney,” she says, pointing to the technician beside her, “And myself, well also the Director of the hospital, Mr. Fields,” Judy informs me.

“What is the procedure for getting the medication?”

“The doctor must request in the system, we get the request, then we procure and distribute it to either the doctor, nurse working that floor, or the anesthesiologist, depending on the medication and what it’s for,” she says.

“So, no one is authorized to procure and distribute medication, but the four names you gave me?” I ask, needing to make sure I understand.

“That is correct, Detective,” she responds.

“Continue doing your audit, and make sure to mark anything else you find missing,” I tell them all, and they nod and continue.

Heath comes back to the room, and we bring him up to speed.

“Ladies, how much longer do you think this is going to take?” Mya asks.

They look at each other, then look around and say, “Maybe another three hours?” Though they can’t be sure and shrug their shoulders.

“Okay. I’ll be back in three hours,” Mya says, but Heath shakes his head.

“No. I’ll call you when they are finished, and you can come pick me up then. I don’t want you to come up if they aren’t close to being finished.”

“Are you sure?” she asks him.

“Yes. The food you brought will tie me over until morning, and I’ve already gone to the bathroom. I’m good,” he promises her, and she nods.

“Call me, and I’ll take you to breakfast before dropping you at the hotel to sleep.”

He nods, and we leave him and the technicians there.

“Well, now we know for sure someone stole the medication from here,” Mya says.

“Yeah, but who? Both Ms. Fischer and Mr. Fields were nervous when we wanted to do an audit. Ms. Fischer didn’t even stay around.”
