“It was her soul energy,” Lucifer says, like I should automatically know what that is.
Brian must see the look on my face because he answers from the bed beside her. He hasn’t stopped touching and holding her since he healed her.
“You know how, when we are together, everything feels right? How we are connected in a way that, when we are separated from her, it feels…wrong?” he tries to explain to me, and I nod.
“Yeah. There’s a different energy around us when she’s there.” He nods.
“It’s because she’s the other piece of our soul. Some pure angels have the ability to use that energy to defeat anyone going against them.”
“But she isn’t a pure angel,” I point out, and he looks to Lucifer who sighs as he watches her sleep. Like he’s making sure she’s still alive.
“She has succubus demon in her, but she comes from my bloodline, and I’m an original angel. That, combined with the fact she remained neutral, she has access to more abilities than we even know of.”
So, what she did, she wasn’t even aware she was doing it.
“She was so out of it when it happened. Will she be able to recreate it?”
“With training and guidance, I know she can. But she won’t remember how she did it,” Lucifer says. “But there’s something else that happened down there that we need to discuss, too.”
“What?” Orion looks up from the chair he’s been sitting in beside the bed, watching her closely.
“Harleigh got back to you guys without moving.” We share a look with one another before turning back to him, not knowing what that means.
“She had to move. What are you talking about?” Orion asks, reaching over and grabbing a hold of Harleigh’s hand.
“It would seem you guys are Anchored.” He runs a hand down his face before continuing. “When certain soulmates are together long enough, something called Anchoring happens. If you ever get separated for some reason, all you have to do is close your eyes and focus on the love you have for the other person. Or in your case, persons.” I look at Harleigh in awe.
How did she know she could do that?
Was she scared because she was alone and bleeding, and somehow ended up near us?
“How come we’ve never heard of this before now?” Brian asks him, standing up after kissing Harleigh on the forehead and I take his place, needing to hold my girl.
She saved me.
“Usually, soulmates have to be together for years before this connection is built. None of us expected it to happen this soon.” Harleigh’s body curls into me on a sigh when I wrap my arms around her, and I smile into her hair. I am so fucking gone for this girl.
“Do you think she was scared and just thought of us?” I ask softly, feeling sick at the idea of her being afraid.
“It’s impossible to know until she wakes up,” Lucifer says before moving back to the door. “Get some sleep, you guys, she’s going to be out for a while.”

Harleigh
I feel drained and sore.
Opening my eyes, I see Brian in bed with me, and smile at his sleeping face. I love how sweet and peaceful he almost always looks.
“Hey.” My voice cracks, and his eyes open, taking me in before he smiles.
“Hey, beautiful. How are you feeling?” he asks softly, and I cringe.
“Like I’ve been stomped all over by a herd of elephants. What happened?”
His hand comes up to cup my cheek.
“You lost a lot of blood. What do you remember?” His eyes are searching mine, and I close them to think.
“Um… I remember going into that room to train.” He nods and watches while I try and fill in the blanks. “Some snake lizard thing attacked Colt.” Why is it so hard to remember right now?
“Anything else?” he asks softly, and I sigh, moving until I’m curled up in his arms.
“Something grabbed me.” I blink as memories start to come back. “I fought it and fell to the ground slowly. Kind of like I was floating?” He looks surprised.
“You floated?” I shake my head to try and clear the scattered images.
“I think so? I’m not really sure how to explain it. One second I was free falling, and the next, everything slowed right down, and I landed on my feet. I remember trying to find you guys and hearing a voice right after.”
“You heard a voice?” I nod and try and remember who it was, but I can’t grasp it.
“Yeah, but I can’t tell you whose. The next thing I remember is Orion holding me and feeling tired, then a bright light…and nothing.”
After a long moment of him taking in everything I remember, he runs his hand over my head.
“It sounds like you remember most of it. You’ve been asleep for a few days.”
My eyes widen as I pull back to look at him. “Days?”
