“NOOOOOO!!!!! It’s not. He’s not!” Everything around us shakes as David stands up holding Brian’s dead body, the angel blade sticking out of him. “No. Don’t take him away from me. Please!” she begs, and my heart shatters into a million pieces, seeing her in this much pain. I feel it deep in every part of me.

“I have to. I had hoped I would get here before the attack. I’m so sorry. I have to take him.” Her sobs are uncontrolled, the ground and everything shaking, and things start flying around us, and I hold her tighter.

I look to Mark for help as I try and soothe her, knowing she’s the one causing the devastation around us. He hands the kid responsible for all of this to Orion before coming over, and kneeling in front of us.

“I’m so sorry, sweetheart.” His voice is hoarse from holding back the emotions we are all feeling. “Forgive me,” he whispers, before clasping her face until she goes limp in my arms. Everything stops moving around us when she falls asleep. “Go, David. I’m sorry for all of this. I’m sorry for your pain,” Mark whispers in a hushed voice before there’s a loud whoosh and he’s gone, along with Brian’s body.

“What did you do to her?” I ask.

He sighs, staring at her in my arms, her face still distraught in pain.

“I put pressure on her Vegus Nerve. It’s the only thing I could think of to make her stop.”

I don’t know how long she will be out for, but we have other things to worry about. Like the fucker that tried to kill Harleigh.

“What are you doing with him?” I sneer at the asshole that Orion is holding by the neck.

“Leave him to me. I’ll have answers by morning.” He’s angrier than I’ve ever seen him. I have no doubt that the kid won’t make it until morning for what he just put our girl through.

Mark nods to him, and Orion drags him into the school by his neck while Darren follows to help.

“What was that? Angels don’t die.” Adeline hiccups through her tears as she kneels down to run her hand along Harleigh’s hair to try and comfort her.

“An angel blade,” I whisper, still unable to believe it.

“How did we not know there was something that could kill him?” She’s still crying, trying to ease the pain off Harleigh’s sleeping face when Mark answers.

“Because they were supposed to have been destroyed a long time ago.” His growl floats through the night air until we are wrapped in silence.

Obsession Book 1 of the Deadly Seven Series Preview: Co-Write with Story Brooks

Hell.

They say it’s a place of fire and brimstone. A place you go when you die, but for the seven of us? That’s complete and utter bullshit.

Hell is the life we were thrown into while growing up. Things only got better once we were forced into the same group home six years ago.

That’s when we went from seven, fucked up kids alone in the world, to a group of delinquents everyone was afraid of.

Alone, we were vulnerable. Easy targets.

Together? We became an unstoppable force that no one messed with.

We’re the outcasts. The town murderers. Cross us and you’re liable to end up in a shallow grave.

“Let me go!” the man screams as Creed cuts through the skin on his neck. “Please, I didn’t do anything,” he whimpers as the blood drips down his neck.

It’s not a fatal wound.

No, Creed likes to play with his toys and cause the maximum amount of pain before he kills them.

“I sense a liar,” Creed cackles like he’s high as a fucking kite. He’s not, at least not where drugs are concerned.

He’s high on the kill. The sight of the blood, the smell of the fear permeating the air.

He won’t be our first or our last.

What do you think happened to all of the people who wronged us? We couldn’t let them live to hurt others like they had hurt us.

We were never going to let that happen, so we became the monsters that everyone feared.

Harm the innocent and we will hunt you down.

“Please. You have to believe me! I’m not dumb enough to cross you! That’s a guaranteed suicide mission!” he screams like a little bitch as Creed’s knife slices open his clothes, drawing blood from his chest along the way.

“I wish I could believe you, Pete. But just because you know it’s a suicide mission to cross us, it didn’t stop your urges. Did it?”

The guy visibly pales, pissing himself in the chair as he looks between us. “Wh-what are you talking about?” He’s pale as fuck, and I snort while the others glare at him.

My brother, Lukas, moves to tower over him. Danger radiating off him like it’s strangling the man until he can’t breathe.

“You fucked up. Just because the station has no evidence that you touched that little girl, doesn’t mean we won’t act,” he sneers at the man in disgust before laying a punch into his gut.

That’s right. Lukas, the oldest of all of us, is a cop.
