wild hunt   A ghostly hunter and his rout continue the chase. This belief is well-known throughout Europe, especially in the north. Superstitions connected with it—such as the means of avoiding its power, the identity of its leader, and the time of its appearance—vary from place to place. Its character, however, is always malevolent. See Gabriel ratchets, Yeth hounds, and Dandy dogs.

yam   Home.

yarth   Earth.

Yeth hounds   See wild hunt.

zogs   Bogland.
