“I wasn’t sure what type of flowers you liked,” he admitted sheepishly.
Roxxy laughed and stepped back. She entwined her fingers with his. “They are perfect and just so happen to be my favorite.”
“Good, because I can’t ever remember buying flowers before.” He laughed. He ran a hand over his head and stared at her.
Her heartbeat flickered out of time. His admission was important. If this was new to him, then he was definitely taking what they had between them seriously.
“Let me take you in to meet my parents.” She had totally forgotten they were waiting on them.
“Okay. Then what’s this great plan you had?” he asked. He gave her a suspicious look.
Last night she had admitted she wanted to plan their first day together and would make all the arrangements.
She leaned into him and pressed a kiss to his chin. “We’re going riding, city boy.”
Chapter 17
Myles was going to be sore in the morning. It had been years since he’d been on top of a horse. Hell, the last time was in the Army. He and his team had been deployed in some remote areas of Kuwait that would only allow them to travel by horses.
He’d had a crash course in riding then, and it appeared like today was going to be his crash course refresher.
Roxxy, on the other hand, was a natural. She looked as if she were born to ride. Her long hair flowed behind her, and her small cowgirl hat was adorable on her.
But he couldn’t take his eyes off the way she was perched in the saddle and how she moved as one with the mare.
His mind was immediately thinking dirty thoughts.
Tonight, his Roxxy would be sitting astride him just like that.
Only she’d be naked, and his cock would be buried deep inside her while she rode him.
“Come on, slowpoke. Midnight won’t hurt you,” Roxxy called out over her shoulder.
“We’re still getting to know each other,” he replied. The horse beneath him was beautiful and had the silkiest black coat he’d ever seen.
Midnight was the perfect name for him.
Myles breathed in the fresh air. Coming down here had been a good idea. Getting away from the hustle and bustle of city life and crime was just what he needed.
The meeting of her parents had gone well. Shelby Sutton was the exact image of Roxxy. The older woman had immediately welcomed him with open arms and one hell of a hug. Her smile was infectious, and it was easy to see why Earl Sutton had fallen for the woman.
Earl was more withdrawn, but of course he should be. The man was meeting his daughter’s lover…eh…boyfriend. Myles liked the sound of that. He had never been one to commit to a woman before, but never had he met one like Roxxy. She was one of a kind.
“Come, boy. We can’t let the women show us up.” Myles urged the horse on. He was caught up in the beauty of the land. The grass was bright green, and the woods they were nearing was plush and overgrown.
Roxxy turned around and tossed him a wink. She pointed to an area up ahead. “We’re almost there. See that tree over there where the hill starts? That’s where we’re going.”
Myles nodded, thankful they were almost at their destination. He held on to the reins and was glad Midnight was mild-mannered and followed Roxxy. Hanging on by a thread on a runaway horse wouldn’t be a cool look for him.
Ten minutes later, Roxxy did a perfect dismount. Myles watched, envious. He hoped he was half as graceful as Roxxy when he got down.
“You need help?” Roxxy asked, petting her mare.
Her gaze turned to him, and he shook his head.
“Me? Need help?” He waved a hand at her. “I got this.”
“Oh, okay.” The doubt on her face didn’t sit well for his manly pride.
He’d show her.
He’d got on the damn horse by himself, he would be getting off on his own.
He tossed his leg over and attempted to slide off Midnight.
Wrong move.
The animal stepped to the side as he promptly fell on his ass.
“Thanks, Midnight,” he muttered.
Midnight nickered as if to reply.
“Are you okay?” Roxxy rushed to his side. She knelt on the ground next to him, obviously holding back a smile.
“Yeah, I’m okay.” His lips tilted in the corners. “Just my pride is bruised along with my ass.”
Roxxy fell into a fit of laughter. She tilted over and landed on him. Myles gave in and chuckled with her.
