Sweet enough to give a person diabetes.
“The land is gorgeous,” he commented in between bites.
“It is. This is my favorite area. It’s like a little hideaway, but I’m still able to look out on everything.” She took a sip of her tea before turning to him. “I’ve been coming to this spot since I was a kid. Whenever I needed to be alone and gather my thoughts, I’d come here.”
Myles wiped his mouth with his napkin. He reached for her hand and brought it up to his lips.
“Thanks for sharing your special spot with me,” he murmured. It really meant a lot to him. She didn’t have to bring him to her little oasis, but she’d chosen to share it with him.
Seeing her on the horse and out in the country let him see the real Roxxy.
She wasn’t just the hard-nosed auditor she portrayed back in Columbia. Here she could just be herself.
“Eat up. Momma will be insulted if we don’t put a bigger dent in this food.” Roxxy waved to the spread.
Myles patted his flat stomach and nodded. “Yes, ma’am.”
He didn’t want to disappoint Mrs. Sutton.
They finished what they could and put away the leftovers they didn’t make it to.
Myles laid back on the makeshift pillow of the bags. It wasn’t the most comfortable, but it allowed him to let Roxxy to snuggle up against him.
They watched the clouds and just talked.
Myles had never felt so comfortable around a woman before. They spoke of their childhoods and anything that came to mind.
Even the periods of quietness were nice.
Just lying under the big blue sky with his woman next to him.
That was all Myles really needed.
“Look at that cloud!” Roxxy pointed. Excitement lined her voice. “It’s a snowman.”
“What? A snowman?” He squinted slightly. He could sort of see it, but not really. “I don’t know. Look at that one. It resembles a skater.”
“A skater? How do you see that?” Roxxy snickered. She leaned up and rested on her elbow. Her long dark hair fell around her shoulders while she stared at him.
Her beauty always captivated him. Myles reached up and tucked her hair behind her ear. He couldn’t read her expression. Her gaze dropped down to his lips.
“What is it?” he asked.
“Nothing,” she whispered.
“It doesn’t seem like nothing.”
“I’m just happy,” she admitted. She pressed a kiss to his lips. “I’m enjoying our time together.”
He slid his hand to the base of her neck and brought her back to him. He kissed her again.
“I’m having a good time, too,” he said.
She pushed off the ground and straddled him. She moved his pillow out of the way and held his arms over his head.
Myles let her be in control. If he wanted to, he could move her, but he’d play her little game and let her have her fun.
“Don’t move,” she murmured.
“Why not?” His eyebrow rose.
“And no questions.” She gave a cute growl. She leaned over and kissed him again.
“Yes, ma’am.” He chuckled.
She slid his hands down his chest and stopped them at the edge of his shaft. His breath caught in his throat at the twinkle in her eyes.
Roxxy pulled his shirt up and got it stuck on his head.
“Help me,” she breathed.
“You told me not to move—”
“Myles!” She giggled. “Okay. You can only move when I tell you to.”
He shifted and tugged the shirt over his head and dropped it down on the blanket next to him.
“Stubborn man,” she muttered.
