“Actually, you do, otherwise I’m going to assume you were the one to kill that couple while they were having sex, as well as the other couples that were murdered in your car,” I tell him.
“I could get fired,” he whispers.
“You probably already are,” I tell him honestly. “You were having sex with a passenger,” I add.
“Shit,” he whispers.
There’s a knock on the door, then Heath walks in with a file, handing it to Mya before walking out.
Mya opens the file and reads it.
“So you were arrested three years ago for stalking,” she says.
“That was a misunderstanding,” he calls out.
“A misunderstanding? You broke into your ex-girlfriend's house, while she was having sex with her boyfriend, and you jacked off, leaving your semen on her bedroom door,” she states.
“She told me I could listen to them have sex, but then she called the cops and said I was stalking her,” he admits, lowering his head.
“What proof did she have that you were there?” Mya asks him, though I can see she has a finger on it already.
“She had cameras around her house,” he whispers.
So where did you hide the cameras in the car?” Mya probes.
“I didn’t hide any cameras in the car?” He states.
“Then how else would you know the couple was having sex? Unless you killed them?”
Damn, Mya is good.
“I didn’t kill them, I swear,” he says with fear in his voice.
“Then how did you know?” she asks again.
He hangs his head down and says, “There are several cameras throughout the car.”
“Did you see the couples being killed?” Mya asks.
He nods his head but doesn’t look up.
“Where do you keep the video footage?” I ask.
“On my laptop,” he whispers.
“Where is it at?”
“It’s on the train, in my locker, in our locker room,” he says, as tears fall down his face.
Nora comes into the room, “Heath and I will go get it,” she says, and I nod.
“Can you tell us what you saw?” I ask him.
“Not much, they wore a black hoodie, with the hood up over their head each time. It was very hard to see a face, but I can tell you it was a female,” he says.
“How can you be sure of that?” I ask.
“The way she walked first off, but also because a hoodie can’t hide a big rack,” he says, smirking.
When Mya and I are done questioning Cavanaugh, I take him down to booking so they can process him.
“What do you think of his theory that it’s a woman?” I ask Mya.
“I wondered from the beginning if it was possible. Do you think it could be Gretchen Fischer? She’s still missing, isn’t she?” Mya asks.
“She is,” I reply before adding, “She did have access to the drugs that were used, but what would her motive for doing it be?” I ask.
“That I don’t know, but if she were selling the drugs, we should see plenty of money going into her account, and she wouldn’t be so far in debt. I’ve not seen anything to show that she’s paid huge amounts on anything to bring her debt down, but my gut says she’s involved somehow, otherwise why would she run?”
“Good point,” I say as Heath and Nora walk into the conference room.
“His locker was a mess,” Nora says.
“I can imagine,” Mya mutters.
Nora hooks the laptop up to the TV screen, and Heath gets into the laptop, finding the files. He opens up the first date in question.
