SURVIVORS: Gladioli the maid, Evans the chauffeur, Lucy (“Mrs Waugh”), Lady Cradoc. Mr Bones the Butler is later revealed to have survived the explosion due to his vampire nature.
Absent family members such as Rosamund Radcliffe-Swythe, Ichabod Radcliffe and Abigail Wildegreen were later revealed to be still alive in 1977, though Rosamund only appears offscreen in phone calls to her granddaughter Sheena.)
Season 12 (1976) 13 episodes
Thrown forward fifty years in time, four survivors of the explosion find themselves in 1976. Cramberleigh is now the secret base of C Squad, British Intelligence.
12A A House Called Central — After going their separate ways and trying to start new lives in 1976, Gladioli, Evans and Lucy are eventually drawn back to Cramberleigh, and accept jobs in the secret service. Gladioli replaces the receptionist, working on behalf of their unseen boss, Agent A. Lady Cradoc, who refused to leave Cramberleigh in the first place, barricades herself in the pineapple parlour.
12B Four Spies and An Archaeologist — Lucy Waugh meets her step-great-niece Sheena Swythe, the secret agent assigned to train the new recruits in C Squad. Sheena and the mysterious Mr Knight take Lucy and Evans on an intensive on-the-job training weekend, where they uncover a sphinx-themed secret society, a sarcophagus-smuggling operation, and a cranky archaeologist in her 50s named Dr Abigail Wildegreen.
12C Hot Ice — Evans and his driving skills are put to the test as C Squad deal with a series of diamond heists around the Home Counties.
12D The Secret Silver Service — Lucy is assigned to assist Mr Knight on a top secret job, only to discover that Bones, her family’s former butler, is alive and well and working as a double agent. (“Alive” is an overstatement, he’s still a vampire.)
