Caller: Something has . . . happened. I couldn’t find anyone when I woke up this morning.
Dispatcher: Can I get your name, ma’am?
Caller: I don’t know where anyone is. I checked everywhere.
Dispatcher: Can you please give me your name, ma’am?
Caller: Marlow.
Dispatcher: Okay, Marlow. Now tell me what happened.
Caller: There’s blood.
Dispatcher: I’m sorry?
Caller: I found blood . . . in the shed. Please send help.
Dispatcher: Okay, Marlow. I need a little more information and I can do that. Can you please tell me your location?
Caller: Our family’s lake cabin. The one closest to Covet Falls. 6101 Juniper Lane.
Dispatcher: And you said you are alone?
Caller: I think so.
Dispatcher: Stay on the line with me, Marlow. I’m sending police and paramedics.
Caller: Why do you think they all left me?
Dispatcher: . . . I need you to stay on the line.
Caller: I have to go now. I have to go check the shed again.
Dispatcher: No, no, Marlow. Stay calm and with me on the phone.
Caller: I am calm.
Dispatcher: Yes. But do not hang up. Can you tell me what you saw?
Caller: I already told you.
Dispatcher: Do you know who could have gotten hurt? Who was with you?
Caller: Yes. I have to go now.
[CALL DISCONNECTS]
[Voice-over]
JODI LEE: After the 911 audio was finished, Marlow requested a brief break. There were some additional discussions with her team. When she was ready, she sat down with me again and we continued our interview.
[Studio]
JODI LEE: Are you okay? Do you need some water?
MARLOW FIN: I’m fine. Thank you for letting me take a break.
JODI LEE: It’s hard listening to that?
MARLOW FIN: [Nods]
JODI LEE: Just for the record, that is your voice on that 911 call.
MARLOW FIN: I won’t dispute that. That is my voice. I made that call.
JODI LEE: There has been a lot of talk that you sound . . . a little off on that phone call. That may be the nicest way to put it, and I apologize if it’s off-putting. But you don’t really sound all that concerned.
MARLOW FIN: I’d love for someone to give me the handbook on finding blood. What’s the normal protocol and reaction for it?
JODI LEE: I think that’s understandable. There is nothing normal about that kind of situation. Were you in shock?
MARLOW FIN: I was not myself. I was still trying to process what had happened.
JODI LEE: When you saw the blood, did you shout? Scream?
MARLOW FIN: I—it was nothing. I did nothing. I said nothing. It was [draws hand over face]. I can’t explain why that was my reaction but it was.
JODI LEE: Why were you at the cabin that Labor Day weekend?
