JODI LEE: Did you text often before all this?
MARLOW FIN: No. We really only connected when I went back home, which was rare.
JODI LEE: He must have agreed right away?
MARLOW FIN: No, actually. He wasn’t sure if there would be time. But when his meeting ended early, he sent me a text letting me know dinner could work.
JODI LEE: If it was only dinner with a family member, then why the hand-holding? Why the close physical contact?
MARLOW FIN: We didn’t hold hands. He escorted me inside. I think he may have placed his hand on my back. That’s it.
JODI LEE: Have you seen the pictures?
MARLOW FIN: I’ve only looked at them once, very briefly.
JODI LEE: And what did you see when you looked at those pictures?
MARLOW FIN: Two people going inside a hotel.
JODI LEE: Did you kiss him?
MARLOW FIN: No.
JODI LEE: Did you try to kiss him?
MARLOW FIN: Yes.
JODI LEE: You are admitting to me right now that you did in fact try to kiss your sister’s husband, Sawyer. A man you just called a brother a few moments ago?
MARLOW FIN: I’m not proud of it. But I am being honest when I say I was looking for closeness in that moment. I was utterly alone.
JODI LEE: But is that really a valid justification?
MARLOW FIN: No, it is not. I never said it was justified.
JODI LEE: Did you ever try to kiss him on another occasion? Engage in any other acts of physical intimacy?
MARLOW FIN: No. He was better than that. Better than me. The choice I made at that dinner, and those pictures, cost me dearly.
JODI LEE: Do you say that because of the fallout with your sister, Isla, was a result of it all?
MARLOW FIN: There wasn’t anything I could say or do afterward that would make it any better.
JODI LEE: Did Sawyer try to engage in anything physical with you that night?
MARLOW FIN: He was the one who pulled away.
JODI LEE: What did he say to you when he did that?
MARLOW FIN: I honestly don’t remember. I was too embarrassed. My heart just dropped. It was like my body was acting before my mind could react. I think I tried to call Isla but he told me not to.
JODI LEE: What happened with Isla and you after the story and photographs broke?
MARLOW FIN: She did not speak to me for the next few years. I tried almost daily to reach her. But she refused. The next time I talked to her was . . . [Pause]
JODI LEE: You were saying?
MARLOW FIN: Oh . . . I can’t believe that was when we finally spoke again . . .
JODI LEE: Marlow?
MARLOW FIN: I’m here. I’m still here.
JODI LEE: Okay. Please let us know if you need a break.
MARLOW FIN: No. Continue.
JODI LEE: There is another date I want to discuss. I want you to share with everyone what happened on December 16, 2017. Do you remember anything from that day?
MARLOW FIN: [Shakes head]
JODI LEE: You don’t remember?
MARLOW FIN: I do. I do remember. That’s why it’s so difficult to even talk . . .
JODI LEE: We can take a brief break if you—
MARLOW FIN: Do you remember when I told you there were two dark holes in my life? The two darkest moments? The first I already shared with you.
