“Trust me, she hasn’t left my mind. But I need this shard since yesterday, Rufian!”
“And we will have it, with her help. Utilizing the dungeon core’s shard, the one you currently possess, is vital to our success.”
“Perfect. Then let’s go,” I suggested, rubbing my arms from the biting cold as I paced forward. However Rufian stayed back, not moving a muscle.
I turned to him and barked, “What the hell are you waiting for?”
“Answer me this, why did you have your cyber arm out in the subfloors of my old home?”
“To fucking see? It was dark as shit.”
“Was that it?” he asked skeptically.
I squinted my eyes at him. “What else would I need it for?”
“Nothing, I suppose… Where was the codex located anyway?”
“Where you said it was, in the cellar. Now, unless you have more stupid questions, we need to move.”
“I hope what I said to my father didn’t frighten you, Silas,” he said, defending himself. “I only said what he wanted to hear. You do know that, right?”
“Yeah…”
“That man is…” he snickered, “Truly something else. Even with my disguise, he suspected me. But once I defended the fae race, his fire of doubt was instantly doused. Now you see what I had to deal with during my early years in that home. Blind ignorance. It truly is remarkable, especially when you can use it as a weapon against vile men.”
“Yeah… right.” I pushed my frustrations aside and focused on the task at hand. But two steps in, I broke my gait, noticing an alert flaring in my system’s panel.
Defective Cyber Sense Detected
Defective Cyber Sense Detected
“Head’s up. Cyber sense is near,” I warned him.
“Oh, shoot, what a dent in our plans,” Rufian hissed. “We truly don’t have time for this.”
“Well, they have time for us.” The air forged a line of beasts in front of us. Encased in ice, the silhouette of four gargoyle-looking cyber beasts.

3x Heal potions
1 Cloak Charm
600 sammies

Crap, they were all almost three times my level.
Rufian was right, we didn’t have time for this. With no idea how long the codex had been sitting in his old cellar, we couldn’t waste time fighting these bat-winged demons. On the plus side though, they were carrying valuable loot. I was itching for another cloak charm, and this one on the left had one. Not only that, they each had a couple level accelerants! It was my first time bumping into one of those, and the faster I leveled up, the more skills I could tack on.
The advantages of fighting higher leveled cyber sense monsters was really showing in this cold wasteland. I had doubts that Rufian would stay and join, but sure enough, he pulled out his phoenix bird as the Nogiaths began bursting out of their ice shells.
“This location is safe enough,” he said and then ordered me, “Hero, let’s make this quick—pull out your crystal shard.”
Rufian rolled his sleeves up and pulled off his gloves, but I had no idea what he was up to.
“Why? What are you planning to do?”
“Just trust me.”
Trust you? Yeah right…
“I see more emerging from the lake of ice along the horizon. Be swift.”
Didn’t really have much of a choice, did I?
