Lucifer says they will wait until summer break because of the danger of killing so many innocent lives, but I don’t get it. They’re wanting to attack me and I’m fucking innocent, so I don’t see why they care about others.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad they do, but their thinking is so skewed.
“Hey, Harls,” Adeline says from behind me, and I jump out of my skin, screaming until the guys all come running.
“What’s wrong?” Bry is running his hands over me to check for injuries while Orion looks around for a threat, and Colt is looking me up and down.
My heart is beating out of my chest, and I can’t seem to catch my breath as they all stare at me, wondering what happened.
“I…I can’t…do this.” I fight to push the words out through the panic attack I’m having, and they spring into action.
Bry uses his calming abilities on me by pulling me into his arms, while colt wraps his arm around my shoulders and kisses my head.
“What’s going on?” Adeline asks as Orion looks her up and down with narrowed eyes. Shit, he’s seeing her as the threat since she’s the only one around us.
“Nothing. You just… scared me. I’m fine.”
Orion actually laughs, taking a step closer to us.
“You’re not fine. You don’t think we haven’t noticed that you’ve been jumpy as hell lately?” I swallow, guilt forming in my gut at trying to keep it from them. I should have known they would pick up on it.
“I’m sorry,” I say in a small voice, and Colt tightens his arm on my shoulders.
“We’re all on edge, babe. But you can’t keep that kind of shit from us.” He sounds sad, and I stiffen.
“I’m not trying to, I just don’t know what’s happening. None of this is going to get any better until we know what they’re planning.”
Bry shakes his head.
“We won’t know, beautiful. We just have to be prepared. We’ve been training for surprise attacks all year for a reason.”
Logically, I know this, but I hate the unknown.
How many are we up against? I know the council is involved, but they have to have more than that if they’re willing to go up against Lucifer himself, right?
“Something just feels really off,” I say before the room falls away from me, and I’m in a large field at night, surrounded by thirty or more angels.
“We need to move on them now,” someone says from the crowd, but
it’s too dark to make anyone out.
“We can’t attack them yet,” Raphael barks at the person.
I would recognize his voice anywhere after he
spewed his hatred toward me. There’s a rustling
in the crowd before someone else speaks.
“Why not? There’s no one else at the school.
Right now would be the perfect time!”
A chorus of them sound off in agreement.
“It’s not. I’m telling you, they will be expecting us,” Raphael
tries to explain.
“They’re expecting us no matter what we do! Why does it matter
if we wait until summer?” someone else asks, and Raphael growls.
“Because we need to prepare ourselves! Do you think it will be
easy to go up against Lucifer?!”
Some gasp.
“Why are we going against him? That will throw the balance. He can’t be there!”
“He was there to rescue her that night. When it comes to the girl, he doesn’t
care about the balance!” he bellows, and everyone is silent.
“We wait until everyone is gone for the summer. That’s final.”
I come back to the room with Addy and the guys with a gasp.
