“You will be if it goes that far. But let’s keep that under wraps, yeah?”
She grimaces and nods, then Dad heads to grab his own lunch.
“So, no drama? That’s a very different Addy than I’m used to.” I poke her, and she gives me a sad smile.
“I grew up a lot over the summer, Harls. Came to a lot of realizations about life.” I look at her and see the tears building up.
“Hey.” I pull her in for a hug. “It’s going to be okay.” I rub her back as she cries into my shoulder, the guys all leaving us to have our conversation in private.
They don’t move far, just to the table over so they can still be near and protect us, and I love the fuck out of them for it.
“What’s going on?” I ask, and she takes a deep breath.
“I’ve been feeling this weird pull inside of me since Paul turned me. I didn’t mention it to anyone, but I felt like I was being torn apart. Still do.” I scrunch up my face as my heart aches for her. “Turns out, I’m being called to find my family.” She must see my confusion, so she goes on to explain. “Whoever’s blood they used to turn me is part of a vampire family. I don’t know who it was, but until I find them, I’m never going to feel whole.”
“Damn,” I whisper, and grab her hands to give them a squeeze.
“Yeah. Do you think your Grandfather would be willing to help me find them?” she asks a little hesitant.
I nod without even thinking.
“Anything, babe. I will do anything,” I promise her.
She nods, and wipes the tears from her eyes.
“While I was there, I also realized that I’m going to outlive my family. My sister, my parents. Everyone. Even you.” She sniffs, and I scoff.
“I don’t know if you’ve heard, but I’m Lucifer’s granddaughter, and God the Father’s great granddaughter. I’m the creation of an evil bitch, and Lucifer’s son. I’m not dying, babe. You’re fucking stuck with me.”
She blinks at me, her mouth hanging open.
“Uh, did you just say you’re a direct descendent of God? Like the being that created everything?!” she hisses in shock.
I laugh and nod. “Right?! I mean, if I had thought about it that should have been obvious when I knew who Gramps was… but when someone says ‘Oh hey! You’re related to Lucifer, the Devil’, you kind of don’t think past that.”
“Uh.” She coughs and starts to giggle. “What the fuck has happened to our lives?!”
“No fucking clue.” I think we’re both a little crazy at the moment, but everything feels so overwhelming there’s nothing else to do but laugh past the pain and discomfort of everything that has changed in the past few years.
“Well that just solidifies what we always knew.” She straightens herself, and looks at me with a smirk.
“What’s that?”
“That you’re my ride or die, bitch. I just didn’t realize it would actually end up being an eternity.”
“Yeah.” My heart drops. “We need to make it out of this, Adds.”
She nods. “We will babe. Have faith.”
It’s my turn to blink.
“You’re right!” I jump up and hug her. “Faith!” I scream it at her before I run out of the cafeteria, knowing the guys are going to be hot on my ass.
Faith.
That’s the answer. I need to talk to God.
“You’re not making any sense.” Lucifer is looking at me, and I sigh.
“I just need to talk to Him,” I say, and e shakes his head.
“I don’t get it,” he says, and I shrug.
“You don’t have to. You just need to tell me how to contact Him.” I wait him out.
He rubs his face with his hands.
“You don’t. He comes to you if He thinks He needs to.” Great, well there goes that plan. I deflate a little, and he sighs.“There’s a very good chance He will contact you.”
My head snaps up. “What?”
The guys look at him.
“He’s been watching her since she was born. If He knows she wants to talk to Him, He will more than likely reach out.”
“How?” I ask, feeling nervous.
