Wayne, one of my security guards, jogged over a few moments later, looking stressed. “Sir, we have a situation up front.”

This day was really not getting off to a good start. “What is it?”

He turned to walk back toward the front entrance, so I followed. “There is a woman there screaming that she needs to get in and see you. She kept saying all sorts of stuff that didn’t make sense. Something about a secretary named Linda, a note about canceling a lunch that was never planned and dealing with a Dill Pill. It wasn’t until she said something about a Fi that BoBo sent me to get you.”

I almost tripped over my feet as I came to a sudden stop. I repeated everything he had said, in my head. Then I took off running. I rushed through the front door and found a frantic pregnant woman standing on the front steps of my club.

“Are you Dillan?” She was practically begging for me to be.

“Yes. Who are you? What happened to Fiona? Is she safe?”

That was it, that was all it took. The woman fell to pieces as she rambled.

“I don’t know. I’m Katia, her best friend.” I nodded that I knew of her, and she continued. “I got a call from Linda about an hour ago. Linda is…”

“Fiona’s secretary, yes.”

Katia sighed like me knowing anything about Fi was a relief. “When she got back from lunch, Chris, another junior partner at the firm, told her that Fi had given him some cryptic message about canceling lunch, locking lovers out of their own company, and then told her that Fi left a note for her before she went on a business lunch. Linda recognized the story about you, so she rushed to the desk and found the note. It basically told her to call me and cancel lunch. We didn’t have one scheduled, so I was confused. Until she told me the note said I would have to deal with Dill Pill on my own. I figured that meant you.”

I worked to keep my breathing steady. I needed to stay calm, not freak out. “Did Fiona say where she was going?”

“No, but Linda said that it looked like she was about to, but there was a strange line instead. She doesn’t know what it means.” Katia hiccupped. “I tried calling her, but it went straight to voicemail every time. Where is Fi? What’s going on?”

“If I had to guess, Fiona’s worst fear. Someone has found her and taken her.” I patted her shoulder, trying to be comforting, but I had never met the woman. I didn’t know what she would find comforting. Plus, I was still new to the emotional game. A freaked out pregnant woman was way beyond my capabilities.

“Go home, wait there. Don’t put any extra stress on your body. Fiona would be very upset if anything happened to you or your babies. I will find her and bring her home.” And lock her up. “I promise.”

Katia nodded before falling against me for a hug. I warily patted her back and then she took off.

“Katia, wait!” She turned back around. “Where does she work? I need to start from the beginning.”

She rattled off an address and a company name.

I spun and ran for my car, Bobo right next to me.

“Orders, sir?”

“Get me there as fast as possible.”

“Yes, sir.” We both jumped through our own doors at the same time.

I called Keith from the car and filled him in.

I expected the trip to take longer, but BoBo, whether he would admit it or not, was worried about Fiona.

He pulled up to the side of the building and I jumped out. I knew he would join me as soon as the car was parked properly.

I rudely shoved my way through the elevator queue and pushed in through the doors.
